019: ALL IN GOOD TIME: Cozy Winter Stuff Edition
A short and sweet midwinter roundup of this week’s stay-inside stuff I want to cuddle.
New Balance - Beige 530 Sneakers
Have I finally entered my New Balance phase? My continued struggle with sneakers takes a predictable and potentially final turning point. I’ve been dying for a pair of slippery-sidewalk-safe treads and these look like they’ll do the job. I’m ordering them now and hoping they go with trousers—the monotone beige gives me hope for my wardrobe that is 60% pale pants. To try with black jeans? Wish me luck.
Still slightly waffling on my alternate option, these can’t-go-wrong clogs:
Corridor X Merrell Moab Winter Moc 3
Front General Store - Patchwork Boxers
I’m a small briefs man. But I’ll happily throw on this fantastic patchwork pair around the house and for movie night. Also potential double duty as summer shorts? TBD.
Rolex Steel Datejust 16234 Tapestry Dial
I’m certain that I’d like to have a 16234: great production range, the trusted 3135 movement, and great on a bracelet or a strap 👌.
The hard part for me is the dial: I love this slightly tropical tapestry dial, though if I’m being honest, what I’m really after is the creamy “panna” dials seen on some Zenith Daytonas and Explorer IIs from this time frame. I know Panna Datejusts exist with Roman Numerals, but I think they really crowd the face. Let me know if you’ve ever come across a Panda with baton hour markers…
Lucien Crochet Sancerre Blanc 2023
Winter to me, for whatever reason, means all I want is Sancerre. I know this is counter to a lot of people’s wine practice. But on a crisp night I crave something equally crisp, unfussy and sharp, and this stunner from Lucien Crochet is a slam dunk. Well-priced for such an elegant wine, you can crack it open for Saturday dinner and not feel greedy after opening the second bottle in the fridge.
Cashmere Polo Sweater
Listen. I’m all about relaxing and being comfortable. That being said...you can still be presentable around the house no matter who is or isn’t watching. This is a cashmere polo you could wear out for a fireplace dinner + drinks, then fall asleep in at home afterward.
Black Mountain Wine House
Speaking of fireplace dinner + drinks. My longtime favorite Brooklyn bar has the market cornered on cozy. The goat cheese tart, and roasted tomatoes, will knock your socks off. (Just don’t burn your mouth on those steaming red firebombs.)
Runners up: Union Hall and Clover Club
None of these are secrets but sometimes the classics are just best.
Scandal
We’ve been binge watching Scandal for nearly two weeks, my first time around. It’s shedding (soap operatic) light on D.C. in a whole new way for me, and is maybe the only reason I’ve been able to handle our current political climate.
Lorenzo Uomo Softest Solid Merino Sock
To complete your cozy weekend: the best possible socks. Janet chose these for me for Christmas and—especially in my plum purple and pop green—they really are the best.
