036: SHINY BOY 1!
Men's jewelry roundup for my birthday 💎
In honor of my birthday, (TODAY!) we’re debuting a recurring new focus devoted just to what’s happening now in men’s jewelry: SHINY BOY. In my opinion, lots and lots of jewelry right now is super boring. I’m not seeing too many things that feel special. We’ve hit a certain saturation point of jewelry designers and there’s a lot of look-a-likes. This is my current cache of treasures.
Gemini Bracelet
It’s my birthday after all, and if this ‘Gemini’ bracelet wasn’t made pour moi nothing is. This is one of the best chain bracelets (by Vice Versa) I’ve come across in months. Rather than being three separate rows of chain (e.g. one bead, one diamond, one bead) each diamond is suspended by the gold cording on either side of it using jumprings. The gold bead sections act as the land on either side of the bridge. A beautiful concept that makes for a much less fussy on-the-wrist experience.
A Good Gold Bracelet
I can safely say that my icy winter skin is finally thawing right now, which is good because all winter long I was thinking about fluid drippy gold. Throw this on with your linen and pool shorts when the sun’s out and you’re in a bit of sweat. Think of your big summer fit, crispy linen shirt from Frescobol Carioca, Luca Faloni trousers, Ralph Lauren fishermans, this bracelet, and this Patek Philippe Ellipse our boys at Wind Vintage have right now. Done.
Orbit Studs
Fernando Jorge is one of the top international jewelry stars of today. With too many awards to list and a growing catalog of six figure high jewelry spotlights, I find these Orbit studs to be a fantastic on-ramp into his world. Crafted from carved jade and diamonds, these spring flings would make my next evening look.
Mixed Ring Stack
I was happy to discover By Pariah’s stack sets of gold, carved stone, and more gold. I’m in a carved stone moment, and this combo featuring moss agate is a perfect warm-weather match to your new Fernando Jorge studs.
Bunny

I’m slightly biased on this one. This Foundrae rabbit pendant was one of the first pieces I worked on for the house and I was always fond of it. Also, we call our daughter Bunny all the time (with some variations that veer into Bunny Face, Bunny Girl, Bunny Baby, et al). Father’s Day is around the corner, so hop to it, folks.
Funky pendants

These Joelle Kharrat pieces are so good I can’t pick just one. Very 70s, very contemporary, uses everything we’ve been talking about: carved stones, alternative materials, organic forms. Throw this on a nice chunky long chain and hit the pool.
Diamond Halo Link
Charles Krypell’s stack of three bracelets are nestled in together like baby bunnies on a spring day. STUNNING. I love the idea of wearing all three out, or go ahead and gift one to your best friend. All the diamonds are F in color, and VS in clarity, a difficult thing to find in melee sizes. (Appreciate this attention to detail.) Color matching on white metal is extremely important; any difference in color can create an unwanted yellow to an otherwise bright white palette. Tone on tone only works if the tone’s are right.
One of a kind sapphire ring
I have a preference towards clean cut, classic, styles in my own work. I tend to lean angular and geometric, however, I gravitate to organic forms in other people’s designs I’m sure there’s something there about enjoying that which you cannot make. In this Simuero ring, there’s a sensuality to gold when it’s realized in a soft slouchy way. Adding an emerald-cut sapphire results in the perfect storm. Men: if you’ve been after a middle finger ring that’s absolutely unique and not to be replicated, here he is.
